MBCUK combines leadership and coaching into one qualification, allowing you to lead groups and deliver skills sessions in accordance with your knowledge and experience. It’s a practical alternative and will give you the confidence to lead groups responsibly.
Level 2
Technical Trail Leader

The Technical Trail Leader (TTL) award is a level 2 qualification that allows you to coach basic mountain bike skills, lead groups of up to 6 people, and navigate in familiar territory. It also covers basic trail repairs, and safe extraction of casualties, so that you can lead groups safely and with confidence in difficult terrain. It’s run as a combined training and assessment over a weekend, and there is some pre-course learning that needs to be submitted prior to attending the course.
Level 3
Mountain Bike Coach

The Mountain Bike Coach (MBC) award is a level 3 qualification aimed at experienced leaders looking to develop their skills as a communicator, leader and coach. It covers in-depth skills coaching, layering technique, advanced leadership, and navigating in unfamiliar terrain. It’s split into a 3 day training course containing additional written modules, and a separate 2 day assessment. We normally recommend that candidates leave a few months between training and assessment so that you can take the feedback from your training course action plan and return for your assessment prepared and confident.
